It's a Celebration!

Wow, all the weeks of this summer have just FLOWN by! As I sit here about to write another post, I see that my last post was written exactly a week ago today. A lot has happened in the last week.

As I had stated in my last post, we have some exciting news to share. Charlie got a job offer at an incredible company!!! He has been wanting to work for IROCKE (and up & coming live-streaming website ...keep an eye out for it, it's going to be huge) since he first heard about it months ago. As of last Friday, he was officially offered (and of course, accepted) a job offer from the owner, Allen. Charlie's been building a working relationship with Allen the past few months, doing work for him at Saint Rocke, White Light White Night, and the Hermosa Summer Concert series. Although I'm going to have to adjust to him working longer hours, this new job is very much deserved, and I couldn't be happier for or more proud of my boyfriend :)

We went out to celebrate (a little too hard) last Friday after work!

After spending some time Yelp-ing and Google-ing the best South Bay happy hours, we actually ended up at one of our favorite spots, Sharkeez. Little did we know, it was local appreciation night. They were doing raffles all throughout happy hour. We won back to back prizes! I won a free haircut at a local Hermosa salon, and Charlie won a neon yellow 'PARTY' hat. Sharkeez also has 2-for-1 happy hours, so we definitely took advantage of that. Two PBRs, two Shock Tops, and two Vegas Bombs later, we were all set for the start of our happy hour. The best part about Sharkeez is that they always have a free chips and salsa bar (and their salsas are damn good!). After we finished those six drinks, happy hour was over. The Lighthouse, which is only a few doors down, was having happy hour for another hour, so off we went. We got to The Lighthouse and ordered a few beers and half price appetizers. We got the tator tots with nacho cheese and the buffalo wings....both of which were delicious. The place was dead when we got there, but there was an acoustic set. It was pretty cool having practically a private show. After that guy got off stage, we noticed some familiar faces. The Wheeland Brothers, who opened for Donavon Frankenreiter at Saint Rocke, were up next! I'm not a fan of many opening acts, but these guys rock! We stuck around for about half of their set, had a few more beers ...and a few more shots, then decided to make our way to Saint Rocke. We somehow always end up at Saint Rocke when we're out drinking. To be honest, I can't even remember who was playing that night. By the time we got there, I was pretty hammered. All I know is that the opener played 'Shake Down Street', one of my personal favorite Grateful Dead songs. I'm pretty sure the main act was reggae, and we danced the night away. After a couple of vodka and cranberries, I needed water desperately. I drank about 5 or 6 glasses of water before deciding to indulge in Fireball Whiskey shots. At that point, it was time to call it a night. I don't remember the rest of the night ...I just remember waking up at 6AM on the bathroom floor. It was like The Hangover round 3. Piecing together the previous night is always a good time ...however, I woke up still completely drunk for the first time in my life.

Last shot of the night ...ooh boy.

Hugo! Our incredible bartender at Saint Rocke

We were supposed to head to the US Open of Surfing, however, that definitely wasn't happening. We woke up at 8AM, called our moms (ha!), hung out in bed, and went back to sleep until 11AM. At this point, the hangovers were in full force, and for those of you who know me, I get hangover munchies BAD. On that note, we decided to head to Olive Garden. Worst.decision.ever. The food was mediocre, and we were both feeling pretty nasty...soo, we went home to nap. By about 5PM, Charlie was completely restless and wanted to get out of the house. We decided to stop by my dad and Lisa's to tell them all about our adventurous night. We also went to Big Lots to get lamp for our living room and headed to Ralphs for groceries. Once we got home, we put a movie on and both fell asleep!

Sunday Charlie had to get up early to go work the summer concerts again. The B Side Players and Poncho Sanchez were on the bill for last weekend. I got up early with Char and headed to hang with Lisa for the day. We went hiking in Palos Verdes, followed by breakfast (made by yours truly) at their house, mani/pedis, and Big Lots (again) to buy pool rafts. I finished some more grocery shopping at Trader Joe's and went home to cook and watch movies for the rest of the day.

Monday and Tuesday were spent working. Wednesday the family I work for were heading on a two-week vacation! I came over in the morning to help get the girls ready (and entertain them!) before their flight. I drove them to the airport and came back to house-sit for five days. While drinking a beer poolside, I grilled brats and portobellos for when Charlie took his lunch break. I hung out in or next to the pool all afternoon. Wednesday night I grilled chicken burgers to make pesto chicken sliders...accompanied by homemade garlic fries. Charlie got home from work (he had an 8 hour day at the office followed by his first introduction to IROCKE), and we relaxed all night.

Thursday I was ready to hang poolside all day again, however, I found Red Hot Chili Peppers tickets on Craigslist and had to go meet the guy selling them in Hollywood at 3PM. Since it takes about an hour to get to Hollywood from here, I pretty much wasted all afternoon driving. Unfortunately, the guy didn't show! What a waste of time. I went to Kohls to do a little shopping, and on my way home, the guy called me back. He had gotten caught up with work and wasn't able to call me. His story is that he's a photographer. He shoots a lot of local shows (including Van Halen a few months ago at Staples Center) and gets extra all access/backstage passes. He was willing to sell us his two extra passes for $100 each. He felt so bad that I drove all the way to Hollywood for nothing that he offered to lower the price to $75 to cover the price of gas. We have plans to meet him before the concert on Saturday, and I hope and pray that these passes are legit. If so, we will have all access to a sold out Chili Peppers show at Staples Center. Eeeekk, keep your fingers crossed for us ;) Anyway, so Thursday night Charlie had another late night because of working at IROCKE. While he was working, I grilled corn on the cob, onions and peppers, and carne asada. We had carne asada fajita tacos! I am a huge carne asada fan, but I haven't found any I really like outside of the restaurants in San Diego. I've had it on the grill a few times but didn't really enjoy it (ok, it didn't compare to the restaurants at all.) Well, last night was the first time I grilled it, and it turned out amazing. If I could, I would eat it every single night. I was sooo proud of myself. I like to pretend that I don't know how to grill, so Charlie will do it for me. However, I have been such an amazing little griller this week! After Charlie came home to eat, we tried to get in the hot tub (but for some reason, it wouldn't get hot), so we just drank a few beers and hung out.

Drinking & grilling

And now here is is ...Friday again! I'm sitting poolside (hanging out with the family dog, Finn) as I type this. I'm waiting for the sun to hit the whole yard (if you can't tell, I'm in the shade). Charlie will be here on his lunch break in about an hour ...I'm going to grill quesadillas and make margaritas! Then you can find me with my ass planted on a raft in the pool for the remainder of the day :)

Cheers to the weekend, loved ones!
