Peter Brady & Sea World

If you haven't noticed, we don't do much during the week. We both work 40+ hours ...Charlie has a lot of stress from his job, and my job is wayyy tiring! Chasing after 2 kids under the age of 5 is not always as fun and carefree as it may seem. So that being said, we have slowed down quite a bit on 'work nights' this summer. In the last two weeks, we've been doing a lot of grilling out, playing pool at our complex, listening to music, and watching movies.

Last Friday we decided we wanted to do something that we don't get to take advantage of very often ...HAPPY HOUR! After eating their delicious short rib tacos at White Light White Night, we decided to go to The Rockefeller. We each had two $5 craft beers, I had the Franziskaner Hef and Charlie had Green Flash. We both got the short rib tacos, and we split the chips & guacamole and the Asian-inspired wings. After happy hour ended, we went back home for a few more drinks. Around 9:30PM, we walked over to Brixton on the Redondo Pier. It's a music venue within walking distance of our house! Drinking and no driving ...perfect for a Friday night (especially with a road block down the street from our house!). I had gotten us on the guest list for Wild Child, an incredible Doors tribute show. No Wild Child show will EVER trump my first experience. I saw them solo last summer at the world famous Whisky a Go Go ...where the original Doors were regular performers. Robby Kreiger, the original guitar player for The Doors, stepped in for almost a whole set, and the atmosphere was incredible. Anyway, back to Friday's show. It obviously wasn't as good as my first Wild Child experience, but it was still a great time. They only played one set, but it included all the songs that the Doors are famous for -- Alabama Song, Riders on the Storm, Light My Fire, People are Strange, etc. After a few drinks and some dancing on the dance floor, we headed back to the bar for another round. While waiting for our drinks, I looked to my right and found the man standing next to us extremely familiar. After another glance, I was SURE that it was Christopher Knight. For those of you who aren't familiar with Mr. Knight (much like Charlie), he played Peter Brady on The Brady Bunch. I grew up watching re-runs of The Brady Bunch and later watched Christopher Knight on Vh1's The Surreal Life and My Fair Brady. Once I was 100% positive that it was him, I walked up to him, drunk and bubbly, and said, "You're totally Christopher Knight, aren't you?!". He paused, thought about it, started laughing, put his arm around me, and said back, "yes, I AM totally Christopher Knight." We got our picture with him, chatted for a while, and before we knew it, the show was over! We headed straight home knowing that we had to be up in a few hours to drive to San Diego.

Hangin' with Christopher Knight, no big deal.

5:45 Saturday morning came before we knew it. Half drunk, we woke up to get ready for ...SEA WORLD!!!! If you're a Facebook friend of mine, you've probably seen that I've been to Sea World A LOT. The family I used to work for bought me a 2-year season pass, and I used to take them all the time...pretty much every week. My season pass is ending on August 23rd, and I wanted to use it one more time. After a quick stop for gas and McDonalds breakfast, we were headed to San Diego at 7AM. We got to the park a little after 9, and we were ready for a fun-filled day. Charlie had never been to Sea World, so I was extremely excited to take his Sea World virginity. I also was able to get him $20 off of admission with my season pass (ohh yeahh!). Our first stop was the Wild Arctic ride (helicopter stimulator). After being tossed around in a giant room, we got off our 'flight' and headed out into the Wild Arctic. We saw beluga whales, a walrus, and polar bears. Next up was penguins. After the penguins, we went to the dolphin show called Blue Horizons. It's a Cirque du Soleil-style show. I don't remember the exact sequence of events for the rest of the day, but we rode the new Manta roller coaster (the first drop was ridiculous, and the picture they took of me was even more ridiculous), went to the Shamu show, went to Cirque de la Mer (an actual Cirque du Soleil show in the bay), got our pictures taken in a photo booth, had lunch, ate a jalapeño cream cheese pretzel, saw sea turtles, manta rays, sea lions, and sharks, got to see dolphins up close, and went up in the sky tower to get a 360 view of the park. Unfortunately, by the afternoon, the lines got to be too long for some of the rides, so we didn't get to end up doing everything that we had anticipated on doing. However, it was an incredible day, and as always, we made some great memories together! We were done by 3PM and headed back to LA.

As cold as a polar bear's den!

Cirque de la Mer

We were back in LA by 5PM, and we.were.hungy. Charlie's step-mom, Giann, had given us an Outback Steakhouse gift card a while back, so we decided to finally use it. I started with french onion soup with Charlie opted for the loaded baked potato soup (and about 2 loaves of bread). For the main course, he got a New York strip with broccoli while I got a petite filet with garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms. I can eat a whole lot, but I've never been a dessert person. Unfortunately for me, it's pretty much a requirement for Charlie to eat dessert after every meal. Therefore, I get stuck sharing dessert every time we go out. Charlie wanted to get the cheesecake, but if I had to eat dessert, I wanted it to be something new. We got the most incredibly delicious dessert ever. It was vanilla ice cream with warm cinnamon apples, cinnamon croutons (yes, cinnamon croutons), pecans, and some sort of caramel sauce. We were STUFFED. We stopped by my dad and Lisa's house to say hello before going home to call it a night.

Sunday morning, Charlie got up early to go work for the Hermosa Beach Summer Concert Series. He ended up being there 12 hours doing manual labor and helping produce the Nikka Costa show at the beach. I went from noon-4pm to sell my jewelry (Jammin' Jewelry). Unfortunately, I ended up not selling ANY! I feel like if I had sold during the concert, I would have had better business. It's kind of a touchy subject, so I don't want to get much more into it than that. After a not-so-fun day, I decided not to stay for the Nikka Costa show. I went grocery shopping, rented a movie at Redbox, and ordered Papa Johns (my go-to meal when I'm feeling low).

My jewelry all packed up & ready to head to the beach in my cruise & selling at Saint Rocke's tent

So here we are, it's Friday again! Tonight we are going out to celebrate. Although I can't say why yet, I'm sure I will be able to post about it very soon (and no, we're not pregnant or getting married!). Tomorrow we're headed to Huntington Beach for the US Open of Surfing, and on Sunday, Charlie will be working the summer concert series again.

Peace & Love from SoCal :)
